Eating cold spicy peanut sesame noodles – quick and easy and delicious! Use rice noodles or soba for a gluten-free option.

Listening to Leon Bridges’ new album – his sound is timeless.

Reading The Little Prince again because when you are feeling a little tired and off, this tips you in the right direction.

Enjoying warmer mornings, toddler chit chat, iced tea and dark chocolate-covered dried mango.

Blue Skies

I love her but she is a such a tease!

O, Seattle, why do you do this? All I ask for, once a year, is to have a nice lovely summer. This past weekend felt like winter. Ok, a little spring-like but it was way too cold for almost July! Please, let the sun come out to play, please?

It was a busy weekend here at Scarlett. I cooked up a Thai food storm in the kitchen and got to spend time with my dear friends. I got to show off some of my cooking skills and recipes picked up from cooking school in Thailand. I did make an old favorite recipe – Fried Prawn Cakes – they were popular!

Today, we celebrated Father’s Day with dad and the rest of the gang with some brunch. It was delicious and always fun to get together and share food. There were fish & chips and creamy crab bisque.

Today’s bits:

How have I missed out on Juana Molina before? Take a listen if you like ambient, electronica and good vocals.

Allison Miller can really play those drums, I’m just sayin’.

I have cupcakes on my mind this week – I want some brown liners for these cupcakes that I’m planning to make.

I need more Cray-pas Oil Pastels for my new Taro Gomi book. I just want to color, doodle, scribble and did I mention, color.

[via Willi @ DigginFood] A tomato trellis makes so much more sense than a tomato cage. It’s hard to find a cage that is strong enough for plants with the larger fruit but if the weather in Seattle keeps up this way, I doubt that I will have to worry about it.

Seed madness

You can call this whatever you like but I call it “I’m so glad to be back!”.

As you can tell, I was picking through my seed packets yesterday and sorting through what I might have time to plant in my backyard. Grow, grow, grow, I say!

Have you seen these adorable little frocks Alicia has been sewing for her baby? I love them!

These brick succulent planter idea from Readymade is genius! I think I have the spot just for these.

I’ve been thinking about Alfajores that Matt Armendariz made and didn’t want to get into exploding a can of condensed milk. Dave Lebovitz has good method of making dulce de leche in the oven, minus the can.

How I would love it if someone dedicated this song to me – Yo-Yo Ma & Diana Krall’s You Couldn’t Be Cuter.

I am very curious about this manual Espresso Maker at Matteria.

No excuse

This week started out slow, mostly with me watching my seedlings grow and dreaming up a new garden layout. I will share that later when I scan my sketch.

Then Tuesday came and a huge box arrived at our doorstep. We ate dinner in a hurry and decided to form a band – lead guitar, drums and bass. My friend K is here visiting and she is an excellent drummer. We’ve been rockin’ out since that night. We weren’t so good that we could quit our day jobs but we have been practicing. We are a little tired when we get to work. But that’s ok, the music runs through our veins and dreams die hard.

Tonight, we play at some tavern in a city near you.

Merry Christmas

I have to admit that I do enjoy the cold and wintry Christmasses that I experience here but I will always miss being back in Singapore this time of year. It’s hard to be away from home and all you love most.

Merry Christmas, everyone and maybe next year we will be together again.

I’m dreaming tonight
Of a place that I love
Even more than I usually do
And although I know
It’s a long road back
I promise you

I’ll be home for Christmas
You can count on me
Please have snow
And mistletoe
And presents under the tree

Christmas Eve will find me
Where the love light gleams
And I’ll be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams

Please have snow
And mistletoe
And presents under the tree

Christmas Eve will find me
Where the love light gleams
And I’ll be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams
If only in my dreams

Diamonds or a song

You know that it’s Christmas time when every other commercial that comes on during long TV ad breaks is about jewelry for the holidays. I usually get up and fix myself a snack but this beautiful song on a diamond ad caught my attention.

Landon Pigg sings the words so sincerely.

“I think that possibly maybe I’ve fallen for you
Yes, there’s a chance that I’ve fallen quite hard over you
I’ve seen the paths that your eyes wandered down
I wanna come too…”

I wouldn’t turn my nose up at diamonds but if I had to choose, I’d pick the feelings that the words of this song invoke.

Once the movie
I really want to see this film. I am always fascinated with how some people you meet along the way, albeit for a while, can make such a difference in your life.

The positive reviews and poignant soundtrack (listen to it at the link above) draw me in.
