Last night before bed, I was browsing the new Sun*dance catalog – the jewelry one. There, on one of the pages was some pieces of jewelry with the backdrop of this old cowboy song, Oh My Darling Clementine. I started singing the verses and Mike looked at me in this amazed face, wondering where in the world did I store up those lyrics. It was funny.

Turns out there are so many versions of this song, mutilated, snipped to serve its purpose. Now why is it that I only know one verse?!?!!? Here’s all the different verses put together.

Christopher Cross

Whatever happened to Christopher Cross, late 70s, early 80s music… I heard “Ride Like the Wind” on the way to work today and remembered all his songs that I used to know.

I think my favorite one from him was the one that played on the sitcom “Growing Pains” when the whole family went to Maui for a vacation. It was called “Swept Away”.

“I never had anything happen so fast
Took one look and I shattered like glass
I guess I let it show
Cause your smile told me you knew
That you’re everything I ever wanted at once
There’s no holding this heart
When it knows what it wants
And I never wanted anything more than to know you..”

Goodbye Johnny

I was introduced to Johnny Cash at a young age when I didn’t know how to start appreciating his music. Then I met the man who loved his music, I fell in love with that man and saw how he could love this man’s music. This one goes out to all Johnny’s fans, including my dad and mostly, my husband, who feels his loss quite badly.

I’ve been exposed to Johnny Cash’s older and more popular music but recently he had recorded an album with his old gravel-y voice that in my opinion, was a true progression for a musician like him.

Goodbye Johnny, thank you for all your talents, and your life that has given so many of us inspiration. Here’s to the Man in Black.

Sarah’s New Songs

When I first started listening to Sarah, it was on her Fumbling Towards Ecstasy album. It was one of my favorite albums. Then she came back with Surfacing and just blew my mind. Those who know her, will agree that she has an angelic voice. It was also a significant album because it was the same time Mike and I met and started talking online. I had recommended Sarah to him and now we’re both ardent listeners.

For the longest, we have been waiting for her next album. It’s been postponed a couple of times but she has a new single out on the radios, called “Fallen” and can be heard here. Her new album, post-baby, is aptly called “Afterglow”. It will be released on Nov 4. I can’t wait!

Been listening to my Cocteau Twins tracks (Elizabeth Fraser’s voice is ethereal) and that brought me to look into their label’s website. This label has brought many great indie artistes into the world and reading a new teaswapper’s blog, I realized that it’s been a while since I’ve listened to the Pixies. So, that’s on my listening list too… they have re-issued their “4 and a half” albums in May this year.

Breathy vocals

Woke up this morning and decided to dig into my Lori Carson collection of songs, her breathy heartfelt vocals make pure acoustic resonance.

Bread the Band

breadcd.jpg It’s a slow weekend and you know it when you start downloading 70s ballads. I’ve been listening to Bread and reminscing about my younger days… I remember Da having Lobo vinyls but I always picked the Abba one to listen to. A particular favorite of mine from Bread is “If”, it reminds me of a camp I was at when I was 16-7 and a new friend had played that song when we were falling asleep one night…that friend whom I’ve never really got close to, passed away a couple of years ago and I still think of her. I hope she is in a better place now.

verve remixed 2 Mike and I spent most of the day indoors, geeking at the computers and enjoying listening to NPR and KCRW. Broadcasting from Santa Monica, this radio station plays great music, if your taste is eclectic and not main stream pop, this is the station you should listen to. (For those who already know this, don’t might my ranting.) This weekend, they are promoting Verve Remixed 2, to gain new memberships.
