New Photo Project

I read from Carla’s blog that the same person who started the May Day project is organizing 26 Things. Check it out. I am thinking I will participate, I really enjoyed the May Day project.

Friends

After reading some Monday Memories posts, I reflected and decided to talk about friends. Friends in my life have come and gone, and often I envy those who have been friends for the last 20 years of their life.

I can’t even remember who my first best friend was – because as soon as she proclaimed she had become my best friend, she disappeared. Into thin air. And as quickly as the others arrived, they’ve gone on to other things. Singapore is a small place and yet one can lose friends. It’s a rather sad thing, especially when it kept happening to me. Time and again.

We all grow up, get into different stages in life, experience different things… but why do people just not bother to keep in touch? I’ve tried to re-connect with some of them but mostly they just stopped trying… so I just learned to let it go. I truly wish it was easier.

As the years went by, somehow, I still had faith in friendship and found a true friend, who knew me from the past but never did get close until much later in life…while we were apart, across continents. We kept in touch, until a time came when we had the opportunity to spend time together. Now we are apart again but I never feel far from her, she always seems close to me. We are of that age when we know that even if we had another friend, he/she is not going to “usurp” the “throne” of best friend… we’re grown more mature. And I think that is what works for us.

I miss her terribly but knowing that there is one person out there who constantly has me in her thoughts, willing to keep in touch with me, is all I need. To my past best friends, thanks for the happy times and may you find the happiness of a one true friend like I have.

Honest T

Guess what I had with breakfast this morning? I had a nice cup of Kashmiri Chai from Honest T. They sell whole leaf tea bags as well as bottled tea. I happened on their tea at Whol*e Foods the other day. The packaging caught my eye – they have well-designed labels but most of all their tea is great.

I am thinking of trying their Moroccan Mint the next time I get a chance.

Great Katharine

kat hepburnJust a quiet moment dedicated to the great actress Katha*rine Hepburn. For the talented acting and a unique voice. For gracing our silver screen with such presence.

I have to rent a couple of her movies, just for old time’s sake.

Weekend in and around the kitchen

This weekend, I spent most of my time on the computer, upgrading my blog and playing with Photo*shop. It was a good time and very fruitful, if you notice the little changes on my blog.

I also literally spent time in the kichen because my sunroom is our office and part of the breakfast nook in the kitchen. I can be near everything at once. Mike was on his PS2 all day yesterday and that kept him out of trouble.

Last night I made Claypot Chicken Rice, I don’t make it in a claypot but it works great with a rice cooker. If you cook rice well on the stove, it works too.

Today, I am making a Curry Assam Fish. It is actually a fish head curry recipe from some Singapore fish curry powder I got from my friend earlier this year. I know it might be strange to some of you, eating fish heads… but this is a huge fish head of a snapper or grouper. There is quite a bit of meat just around the top of its head. You can make the recipe with any firm fleshed fish, we’re using Mahi Mahi this time.

Bookstore Question

Anyone know the name of the bookstore in the Northwest? I can’t remember it. Help! It’s an independent bookseller.

Update: It’s Powell’s City of Books.

I’ve added more recipes to the blog – refer to the side bar. Some of them are curry chicken, sayur lodeh, garlic bread, potato salad and turkey burgers.

Photoshop-ing

Today, I spent most of my day sitting at the computer, making new banners and stealing buttons off a site that Anissa recommended. It is all quite evident on my sidebar.

Cheese Biscuits

This morning I woke up with the hankering for cheese biscuits and the kind you would find at Re*d Lob*ster. I found the recipe below and can’t wait to make it – am waiting for Mike to return with cheese. This one is made with Bis*quick. (Thanks to Ginny!) Look at the bottom of the recipe for smaller batches.

On a side note, last night we watched “Frid*a” on DVD – it was great, I enjoyed the story, the acting (except for Ash*ley Jud*d’s accent – love her flapper dress), the use of Kahlo’s art as symbolism and the vibrant colors. And did you notice the wonderful jewelry they had on her. Wow!

Alright, enjoy your weekends!!

Women and tea

In my current interest for tea, I found this great quotation:

“A woman is like a tea bag – you never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water.” – Eleanor Roosevelt
