Mexican Orange ‘Choisya ternata’
It’s been a few weeks since my last gardening post. Like Alan Titchmarsh claims in his series, July and August is when we see our spring yard work pay off. When we will be able to enjoy and reap the benefits of all the toil.
I spent the last couple of hours fertilizing and weeding, hoping to extend the show. But the colors of fall are slowly showing on some of the shrubs.
Fall is now on its way – that means time for planting. I can’t believe that bulbs are already being sold in the garden centers and nurseries.
We bought another whiskey half barrel to plant our green bamboo in and while I was at the garden center, I told myself that I would save my spending for the upcoming Northwest Horticultural Fall Sale. But I caved when I saw a healthy looking Mexican orange.
I look forward to having its citrus fragrance trail me as I enter the front door.

Hi Stef,
I have four of these in my garden and they are just about my favorite. Mine aren’t in bloom at the moment though they usually flower twice each year, so I’m optimistic that they will be late bloomers this year even though they are in partial shade.

Where did you find the whiskey half barrels, if you don’t mind my asking? My husband and I have been looking for some and have had bad luck – either none or poor quality (falling apart!). Thanks.
I want to go to the plant sale too! I bet it’ll be busy!
